Nose Surgery Recovery

Though the nose surgery was successful and everything went smoothly the

treatment of the nose during the recovery can affect the overall

results. The first post – op direction of the day is: be patient!

Immediately after surgery and you wake up and begin to feel the effects

of the work you will immediately notice a clogged nose, pain, swelling

and bleeding under the skin and directly from the nose. A pain killer

will be prescribed to help through the initial first days to a week of

recovery.

The bruising after nose surgery is heavy surrounding the eyes. The

severity of this bruising depends upon the individuals physical

reactions to the surgery itself. The amount of bruising is not an

indication of complication and should disappear within 10 days of

recovery. For any concerns most Rhinoplasty surgeons will have some sort

of follow up phone service in place.

Once home, after care instructions from your cosmetic surgeons office need to be followed carefully. The

more common instructions include:

Staying in bed for the first 24 hours with the head elevated in a

reclined position, similar to the position of an airplane seat in the

cheap section. Don’t be alarmed by a headache, spotty bleeding and

swelling with bruising.

Do not blow your nose or bend over in any position that will place your

head below the heart. This will avoid increasing the level of swelling

and decrease the risk of unnecessary bleeding.

Things to avoid for the first 2 to 3 weeks:

Sex

Weight Lifting

Airline Travel

Nose Blowing

Any Activity the Increases Heart Rate

Things to avoid for up to 6 to 8 weeks

Wearing glasses

Any activity that may risk a hit or punch to the nose

Any gauze or nose shaping fillers will be removed some time within the

first week after the nose surgery. The splint will be taken off within a

2 week period. Some aspects of healing can take up 12 months to be

completely gone. These include, minor local swelling around the nose

area with tenderness and numbness.

As mentioned ear patience is the first post operative treatment to be

applied. By following the after care instructions and taking care to be

careful with your new nose will go a long in getting the look you have

always wanted.
